Chair, Peter Belbin
Peter Belbin was elected to the DDC Board of Management in November 2005 and was selected by the Board to be its chairman in January 2008.
Belbin is the owner of Peter Belbin's Steakhouse & Salad Bar as well as Fort William Cafeteria & Catering.
Vice Chair, John McCarthy
John McCarthy was first elected to the DDC Board of Management in 2005. McCarthy was selected by the Board to be its Vice Chair in January 2008.
McCarthy is the owner of Benjamin's Menwear in the Bowring Building.
Treasurer, Charles Cook
Charles Cook is the longest standing Board Director with the Commission. Charles joined the Downtown Development Corporation in 1984 and was part of the founding members of the current Downtown Development Commission (DDC) in 1989.
Charles has served as Treasurer of the DDC for the last eleven years and has also served as Chairman of the Board and Vice Chair. He sits on the Executive Committee as well as the Special Events – Christmas Parade Committee.
Charles is the Executive Vice President of Sonco – owners of the A.P. Parking Garage at 1 Baird’s Cove. He is a long-time serving member of the St. John’s business community through organizations such as St. John’s Rotary. He is also a member of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee and sits on the local and national golf boards.
Past Chair, Bill Mahoney
Mahoney joined the DDC in 2002 and served as Chairman for five consecutive years.
Mahoney is the owner of Regal Realty, a commercial real estate company in St. John’s whose assets includes the historic Murray Premises and most recently the former Bank of Nova Scotia as well as several other properties throughout the City. Another of his companies, Community Properties Limited, manages several residential units.
