There are over 800 parking meters along Water Street, Duckworth Street, Harbour Drive and the connecting coves. Meter rates are $1 per 60 minutes . There are a number of short term 30 minute meters throughout the downtown as well as 4 hour and 8 hour long term meters.

ALL METERS ON SIDE STREETS ARE NOW 4 HOUR METERS. THIS INCLUDES ALL METERS ON NEW GOWER STREET; GEORGE STREET; SPRINGDALE STREET; CAVENDISH SQUARE; CHURCH HILL; CATHEDRAL STREET; ST. JOHN'S LANE; BATES HILL; HOLLOWAY STREET; STEERS COVE; BISHOPS COVE; BECKS COVE; BAIRDS COVE; ADELAIDE STREET; AND METERS LOCATED ON WATER STREET EAST OF PRESCOTT STREET TO TEMPERANCE AND WEST OF WALDEGRAVE STREET TO SPRINGDALE STREET. 4 HOUR METERS ARE IDENTIFIED BY A MAXIMUM 4 HOUR TIME PLATE LOCATED INSIDE EACH METER HEAD. Don't forget ALL meters on Harbour Drive are 8 hour meters.

2 hour meters are located on Duckworth Street and Water Street from Waldergrave Street to Prescott Street.

After 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day weekends and statutory holidays parking is FREE! In addition, several off street parking lots offer hourly and daily rates for parking.

There are 160 parking meters on Harbour Drive which offer long term parking with an 8 hour maximum parking time limit.

There is also a new and convenient way to pay for meter parking! The Parkcard! The Parkcard is a programmable card that provides a cashless way to use the electronic parking meters operated by the City of St. John's. The Parkcard can be carried in your wallet or stored in your vehicle, eliminating the need to carry coins. It also allows refunds if you return to your vehicle sooner than expected, just insert your Parkcard and you will be credited any left over time. All parking meters in the downtown will accept Parkcards.

Parkcards are available in $20, $50 and $100 denominations and are available at Parking Services at City Hall or Auntie Craes Food Shop at 272 Water Street.

Hourly and monthly parking is available at the A.P. Parking garage. For information on rates please call 754 1489. FREE parking on Saturday is available at the A.P. Parking Garage from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm with 130 spaces available to visitors to the downtown.
