2010 Commemorative Calendar Photo Contest Winners! July 31, 2009

An overwhelming number of photographers submitted well over 180 amazing photos of Downtown St. John’s in the 2010 Commemorative Calendar Photo Contest. Thirteen photos in total were chosen to be featured in the 2010 Commemorative Calendar.

The Downtown Development Commission is pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 Commemorative Calendar Photo Contest:

Tahitian Princess Monday, July 20 - Arriving one day early! July 19, 2009

Due to weather conditions off the coast of Greenland, the cruise ship Tahitian Princess will arrive in port at 8:00 am on Monday, July 20, one day ahead of originally scheduled. The ship is carrying 670 passengers and a crew of 373. It will remain in port until 5:00 pm Monday.

Free Transportation In The Downtown Core…Ride ‘Buddy’ the Metrobus! July 9, 2009

If you are on the move Downtown, get a free ride with ‘Buddy’, a new service provided by Metrobus and supported by the Downtown Development Commission (DDC) for the summer.

Who is Buddy?

Buddy the bus is a new route offered by Metrobus and supported by the DDC and he services the Downtown core. He operates every 20 minutes Monday to Friday and services Water and Duckworth Street all day long (8:00 am – 5:40 pm). His schedule in effect from June 29 to September 6, 2009.

Buddy will give you a lift!

Buddy exists to help move people around Downtown and best of all, there is no charge! Park your car at one spot and ride Buddy to get to your desired location!

Buddy is easy to use.

Just stand at a bus stop along Buddy’s route and he’ll be along shortly. When you get close to where you are going pull the cord above your seat and Buddy will let you off at the next stop along the route

Australian Navy to Visit St. John's July 3, 2009

On Monday July 6th at 9:00 am two Australian naval vessels accompanied by a Canadian Navy ship will sail through the Narrows for a two-day visit to the port of St. John's. Much activity can be expected in the Downtown core as each ship will bring about 250 personel per vessel to our shores. The Australian Navy is on a goodwill tour of it's allies that include Britain, the USA, and Canada, with St. John's being the Canadian port of call. The ships are expected to depart at noon on Wednesday, July 8th. For more information, please contact the City of St. John's Department of Toursim at 576-8106.
