Beck's Cove Closed Starting May 26 May 25, 2009

The contractor working on the Harbour Drive section of the Harbour Interceptor Sewer (HIS) project will need to close Beck's Cove starting May 26, 2009 to facilitate the installation of the harbour interceptor sewer pipe from behind the Bowrings Building to the Beck's Cove pumping station. This closure will last for approximately 6 weeks.

Access to the Bowrings Building Parking Garage will be maintained and controlled via a flagsperson.

Cruise Ship Rotterdam in port Wednesday May 20. May 19, 2009

St. John's cruise ship season gets underway this Wednesday, May 20th, with a visit from Holland America's Rotterdam which is scheduled to visit port from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The ship will bring up to 1300 passengers and close to 600 crew members. The Rotterdam is visiting St. John's as part of it's Fjords and Highlands cruise and it has the following itinerary: New York, Halifax, St. Pierre, St. John’s, Belfast, Liverpool, Dunmore East, Plymouth, Le Havre, Dover, Rotterdam, Newcastle Upon Tyne, S. Queensferry/ Edinburgh, Oslo, Gotenburg, Gdansk, Stockholm, Ronne, Kiel, Copenhagen. Any questions about the Rotterdam's visit should be directed to the City of St. John's tourism office, 576-8106.

Public Meeting Proposed Hotel Temperance St. May 13, 2009 May 4, 2009

Public Meeting Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Foran/Greene Room, 4th floor, St. John's City Hall.

The purpose of the public meeting is to provide an opportunity for public review and comment regarding an application submitted by Nolan Hall Real Estate Ltd. to construct a condominium hotel on the former Powers Salvage site located on the east side of Temperance Street.

As information, the application site on Temperance Street is zoned as Commercial Central Mixed Use (CCM). This zone allows a hotel as a Permitted Use.
