DDC Marking 20 Years of Downtown Revitalization March 31, 2009

The DDC is celebrating 20 years of Downtown revitalization and it is proud of the many projects it has been a part of over the last two decades. The DDC is marking this 20-year milestone with even more projects and special events happening in the Downtown core. These 20th Anniversary festivities will commence March 31, 2009 and extend to March 31, 2010.

All members of the DDC are invited to join us for a special reception to mark this 20-year milestone on March 31, 2009 in the Foran Room, 4th floor City Hall from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Earth Hour 2009 March 18, 2009

Join WWF for Earth Hour 2009, by turning out your lights for one hour on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30-9:30pm!

Earth Hour is a global lights-out phenomenon that will bring together millions of people from around the world to show support for action on climate change.

By visiting www.earthhourcanada.org, individuals, organizations and businesses can sign-up online to show their support, and also find toolkits to help promote this event. Everyone can get involved including Restaurants, Retailers, Hotels, and Property owners. Visit http://assets.wwf.ca/downloads/earthhour_business_toolkit.pdf for ways you can make Earth Hour unique for your business.

Already, hundreds of cities in more than 70 countries have pledged their support for Earth Hour, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's! In 2008, millions of people in more than 35 countries participated. This year already, the number of countries participating has more than doubled, putting Earth Hour 2009 well on the way to meeting WWF's global goal of one billionparticipants!

If you would like to hold an event you can post it on the "Events" page (where you can also find great ideas). Individuals will then know who is hosting events in Newfoundland and Labrador!

TOURISM AWARDS - CALL FOR NOMINATIONS March 17, 2009

The City of St. John's will be celebrating Tourism Awareness Week 2009 by honouring the very best in the tourism business at its 18th Annual Tourism Awards Ceremony in June. Nominations are now being accepted for the five annual awards.

Nominations close 4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 1st , 2009.
