SNOW CLEARING UPDATE - February 21, 2007 February 21, 2007

Following yesterday’s major snowfall, City snow clearing crews continue to work around the clock clearing and widening City streets. Crews and equipment will be working 24 hours a day until further notice.

As of early this morning, all streets were opened to at least single lane traffic. Schools and businesses re-opened today and things are gradually getting back to normal. Motorists can expect delays especially at peak traffic times due to the many narrow streets and reduced site distances caused by high snow banks.

Widening of arterial routes with snowblowers will be the priority for the next 24 hours. Following that, residential streets with only a single lane will be widened. Given the huge accumulation of snow from this most recent storm, it is expected to take two to three weeks to complete all street widening.

Removal of snow from the downtown core by trucking to the harbour is tentatively scheduled to resume early next week, however, the timing of removals is weather dependent.
