City Council has approved a request by Marco Construction to close a section of Water Street on Sunday, March 26 from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. The section of Water Street from Ayre's Cove to Baird's Cove will be closed to vehicular traffic.
The closure is necessary to allow for the installation of a steel structure entrance screen on the front of the Atlantic Place. An eighty-five ton crane will be used to erect the frame as well as a boom truck with a man bucket. If work goes as planned the section of road could open as soon as 5:00 pm.
Motorists are advised that snow removal and/or street widening operations are in effect tonight. Beginning at 12:30 am and continuing until 7:30 am, Wednesday, March 15, 2006, snow will be removed or plowed on the following 5 streets.

2. Pleasant Street
3. Bradbury Place
4. Waldegrave Street
5. George Street (from Waldegrave Street to Springdale Street)
All vehicles must be removed from the streets noted during this time period. Any vehicles impeding the operation will be removed and impounded at the owner's expense. The impounding fee is $109.25 plus $3.00 for each day the vehicle is held in storage.

In 2002 the Government of Canada announced the creation of a new program called "Cultural Capitals of Canada" to recognize and support Canadian municipalities for special activities that harness the arts and culture activities in the community.
