As of noon today Water Street east was reopened to vehicular traffic as the 2007 phase of the Harbour Interceptor Sewer (HIS) construction wrapped up for the season in the area. Contractors completed work between Prescott Street and Cochrane Street on Friday, November 30 with some final asphalt repair work completed early this morning.
The reopening of the Water Street east will result in more regular traffic patterns in the area and reduce heavy truck traffic on Duckworth Street. Parking for customers to businesses and services in the area will also return to normal for the Christmas shopping season.
For more information call the DDC Office at 579 4139 or the City of St. John’s 24 Hour Access line at 311.
well i think its about time this work was finished, i hope the downtown gets a break from construction next year. all the construction, stupid media reports, and "some" of the robo-meter maids, hasen't done a whole lot for businesses downtown in the past 2 years.
